Privacy Policy

FT Touring (“this site”) is a personal travel and bikepacking journal. This page explains what personal data is collected when you use the site, why, and what your options are.

What we collect

Contact form. If you use the Contact page, the name, email address, subject and message you submit are emailed directly to the site owner. This isn’t stored in a database on the site — it exists only as an email, the same as if you’d written directly.

Comments. If you leave a comment on a Journal, Article or Guide post, the name, email address and comment text you provide are stored, along with your IP address and browser user agent string, to help identify and filter spam. Your email address may be checked against the Gravatar service to display a profile picture, if you have one set up there — see Gravatar’s own privacy policy at automattic.com/privacy for details of that check.

Cookies. If you comment, you may be offered the option to save your name, email address and website in cookies for your convenience next time you comment. These last for one year. WordPress itself may also set a small number of temporary technical cookies needed for the site to function correctly (for example, remembering that a cookie notice has been dismissed).

Embedded content and external services

Fonts on this site are loaded from Google Fonts. Loading a page therefore sends your IP address to Google, in the same way it would for any website using Google Fonts — see Google’s privacy policy for details of how they handle that.

Links to Instagram, YouTube and Ko-fi lead to services run by other companies with their own separate privacy policies; this site has no control over what those services do with your data once you leave here.

How long we keep data

Comments and their metadata are kept indefinitely, so follow-up comments can be recognised and approved automatically rather than being held for moderation every time. Contact form emails are kept in the site owner’s inbox for as long as any other email.

Your rights

If you’ve left a comment on this site, you can request a copy of the personal data held about you, or request that it be deleted (this doesn’t include data kept for administrative, legal or security purposes). Get in touch via the Contact page to make either request.

Where your data is sent

Comment data may be checked through an automated spam detection service, and site hosting/backups are handled by third-party infrastructure providers. Data isn’t sold, and isn’t shared for advertising purposes.
